Bob AspromonteBob Aspromonte
I only got to see about about half a dozen baseball games in person when I was growing up. However, when I did find my way into the Astrodome Aspromonte hit homeruns. I also saw him hit at least two grand slams. I've been told that he didn't hit home runs in every game, but he did when I was there. On the other hand, Hank Aaron and other "greats of the game" consistently failed to perform in my presence.

Bob Aspromonte also came through for Billy Bradley, a nine-year-old little leauger who had lost his vision after being struck by lightning. Billy asked "Aspro" to hit a home run for him when his hero visited him in his hospital room. Aspromonte knocked one out in his fourth at bat that night. After Billy regained his vision through the surgey the day after Aspro hit him the home run, Bob hit a grand salm while Billy watched from a box seat behind the dugout.

Tragically, Aspromonte lost vision in his right eye while helping a friend jump-start a car. He still lives in Houston, Texas.
